Use one time horizon for both options.

Choose a period that matches your investment planning. Compare acquisition, setup and integration, and operation using the same assumptions. A blanket savings percentage will not tell you what either option costs your business.

  • Acquisition: hardware, delivery, licenses and any spare or reserve components.
  • Setup and integration: staff hours, contracted work, testing, document preparation, connections and training.
  • Operation: power, network and location, administration, updates, backups, recovery and maintenance.
  • Contingency: changes, incidents, staff cover and committed capacity. Compare available working time as well as invoices.

DIY can use the same self-hosted software.

You can also self-host Open WebUI and LiteLLM on a server you build, subject to their applicable licenses. Selection, setup, integration and operation are the work to compare. Check licensing, feature availability and commercial editions separately; not every edition is unrestricted open-source software.

Questions that help make the decision

Is a DIY AI server cheaper?

It depends on the requirements and capacity you already have. Compare an equivalent usable system, including setup, staff time and operation over the same period. A lower component price does not establish a lower total cost.

Can our IT team use the same software?

Yes. Open WebUI and LiteLLM can be self-hosted. Check the applicable licenses and any commercial terms for the versions, models and features you need. The official starting points are linked above.

What does the stark AI Box base package include?

The proposal section above lists the current starting price and explicit inclusions. RAG, document preparation and integrations depend on the agreed scope. Additional services are discussed individually.

Does running locally guarantee privacy compliance?

Local operation can give you control over data flows. You still need to review the actual processing, access rules, deletion practices and any external services connected to the system. Define requirements and ownership for your organisation.

Who handles updates, backups and maintenance?

With DIY, you organise these tasks or commission them. The stark AI Box base package includes the stated software-update scope. Backups, recovery, assistance and services after that period need to be agreed explicitly.

What should we include in an inquiry?
